What You Can Do
- Use only as much water on your lawn as needed.
- Fix leaky faucets, plumbing, and sprinkler systems.
- Install a smart sprinkler control system to manage landscape watering.
- Based on your climate, replace part of your lawn with native California plantlife.
- Replace your old washing machine and dishwasher, and limit them to only full loads.
- Clean your driveway and sidewalks with a broom in stead of a hose.
- Spend a shorter amount of time in the shower.
- Keep from using the toilet as a wastebasket.
Public Policy Choices
- Continue to provide Legislative support for water planning and infrastructure development
- Implement CALFED and Proposition 13, the State water bond
- Employ water conservation, recycling and reclamation techniques
- Expand use of water transfers
- Conduct statewide, integrated research and planning for water infrastructure, especially for water and land use planning
- Implement water storage through groundwater banking, off-stream storage and conjunctive use technique
